Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at 256-345-8898 if you cannot find an answer to your question. We look forward to hearing from you.

Magna Investigative Group offers a wide range of private investigation services, including but not limited to criminal defense investigations, surveillance, background checks, missing persons investigations, infidelity investigations, and fraud investigations.

This is one the most frequently asked questions, but there is no exact answer. The cost of hiring Magna Investigative Group varies depending on the type and scope of the investigation. Please contact us for a free consultation and quote.

The duration of an investigation depends on a number of factors, including the type of investigation and the complexity of the case. We will provide you with an estimated timeline after assessing your case.

Whether it is worth it to hire a private investigator depends on the specific situation and the individual’s goals. Private investigators can provide valuable information and evidence in cases such as infidelity, child custody disputes, TSCM Bug sweeps, and fraud investigations. However, the cost of hiring a private investigator should be weighed against the potential benefits and the individual’s budget.

While some investigations have taken us to other areas of Alabama, and even out of state, we primarily focus on North Alabama. We serve clients in Huntsville, Decatur, Athens, Florence, Cullman, Scottsboro, and all surrounding areas.

A licensed private investigator in Alabama must be 21 years old, cannot have been convicted of any crime of moral turpitude or felony, and must pass an extensive examination.  Examination included a detailed written exam, fingerprinting, and background check.

Sure, you could do that, but that person you hire is likely breaking the law in Alabama. By law, a private investigator must be licensed and is hired for a fee to obtain information regarding the habits, conduct, whereabouts or trustworthiness of people, among other things. If that unlicensed person does anything illegal, or crosses a line ethically, you could be liable.

Absolutely not! Private investigators do not have ANY police powers whatsoever. In most cases, private investigators do not have any more power than the average citizen does, but we do have the tools, technology, and experience that set us apart from average citizens.

A criminal defense investigator works with defense counsel to review evidence, interview witnesses, analyze timelines, locate new leads, and uncover information that may not have been pursued during the initial investigation. The goal is to independently examine the facts and support defense strategy.

The earlier, the better. Witness memories fade, physical evidence can disappear, and digital records may be lost over time. Early involvement allows for preservation of critical information that may influence case strategy.

Yes. Investigative reports, documented interviews, and collected evidence may support motions, trial preparation, or sentencing proceedings when obtained lawfully and properly documented.

Yes. Most criminal defense investigations are conducted in collaboration with defense counsel to ensure strategy alignment and confidentiality.

Yes. Investigative findings have been presented in serious felony cases, including Capital Murder, Murder, Attempted Murder, and more. Testimony has been provided as an expert defense investigator when required.

When conducted legally, surveillance may be used to document behavior relevant to a child’s well-being. Proper documentation can assist attorneys and courts in evaluating custody arrangements.

Common concerns include unsafe living conditions, substance abuse, neglect, violation of court orders, or behavior that may impact the child’s safety or stability.

Yes, when conducted within state laws and privacy boundaries. Professional investigators understand lawful observation limits and ensure compliance. When conducted in public spaces or in areas where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. Professional investigators follow all applicable laws.

Investigations are conducted discreetly. The goal is documentation without escalation or unnecessary confrontation.

Yes. However, it is often beneficial to coordinate with legal counsel to ensure findings align with court strategy.

Investigations typically involve discreet surveillance, documentation of activities, and verification of claims or schedules. The objective is factual evidence, not speculation.

Clients may receive time-stamped reports, photographs, and video documentation when applicable. All evidence is obtained legally.

Many clients seek confirmation either way. A professional investigation provides clarity and peace of mind, whether concerns are confirmed or disproven.

It involves verifying the legitimacy of injury claims, reported physical limitations, and employment restrictions through lawful surveillance and documentation.

Through time-stamped reports, video or photographic evidence, activity logs, and background research. All findings are objective and evidence-based.

Any private investigator who guarantees certain results is not being honest. We can guarantee that we will do everything within our legal abilities to find the answers you need, but we cannot guarantee it will be the results you suspect or believe to be true. A good private investigator will understand the expectations of a client, and they will clarify if the client has unreasonable expectations.

For example, if someone suspects their spouse is cheating and hires a private investigator to follow them for a full day. The investigator may get evidence of cheating, confirming the client's suspicions.  But, in some cases, the spouse is not cheating, or maybe they are just not cheating on that particular day, so there is no evidence to be gathered during that time.
